Our beginners programme is essentially the same as you would find at all good archery clubs and organisations; it is a step by step introduction to the do’s and don’ts of archery.
Step 1 Safety: Safety is the most important aspect of the sport, you will be taught all about the various commands and instruction associated with the sport at entry level.Areas such as where do I stand, what do I listen out for, what do I look out for, a lot of these are common sense but you would be surprised at what people will try when your back is turned. After the introduction to the safety rules we will proceed with the introduction to the bow and equipment.
Step 2 Equipment: All aspects of the bow will be explained in detail, questions such as what is the handle, what are the limbs, the arrow rest, the string, the nocking point, the right way up, how to put the bow together, how to put the string on, all these issues will be addressed as you can see there is a lot to learn .After a few goes this will become second nature. You will now be introduced to the arrows and will be given the right arrow for you as regards length and weight.Safety equipment will be supplied in the form of a tab to protect your fingers, an armguard obviously for your arm, a chestguard and a quiver to carry your arrows, you will be instructed in how to put these on correctly.
Step 3 Technique: The next stage is shooting technique, what do I do and how do I do it, this will be explained in simple language as not to cause confusion. You will be shown two methods of shooting a recurve bow the first called Point of Aim and the second freestyle. In simple terms the first method is shooting without the e use of a sight and the second is with a sight. The first technique is favoured by people who at the beginning favour an uncomplicated approach, while the second is for people who would like to give Target Archery a go. (The sight is needed to facilitate accurate shooting over distance) Outcome The beginner’s course lasts around six weeks and if completed the individual should have reached a fairly competent level enabling he or she to shoot at distances from 20 to 30 Metres with a fair degree of success. The cost for a beginner’s course is around E 70.00 with all equipment supplied.
